Quintus Farrell LicAc, BAcC, MA, UKCP

Quintus Farrell has been practising acupuncture since 1996. He studied at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading, Berkshire, learning both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and 5 Element acupuncture. The style of acupuncture he practises is holistic and based on you as a person and tailored to you and your body. There are times, too, when certain treatment protocols are used which have been shown to help with some fertility issues.

Quintus spent time in China in the city of Hangzhou at the Zhejiang College of Chinese Medicine studying Acupuncture and related subjects. Practising in London, Hawick and Peebles over the last 16 years, Quintus has focused his practice in Edinburgh and at Napiers Clinic since 1999. He has also has worked for voluntary groups as an acupuncturist, including LGBT and Body Positive. Quintus has worked in every area of application for acupuncture and has always taken a keen interest in fertility issues and reproductive health, including both female and male infertility issues.

Quintus has completed a Post Qualification Master of Arts (PQMA) in Mindfulness based psychotherapy and is a fully accredited member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

Information and Research

There are many areas where acupuncture has been used effectively and if you look at the World Health Organisation website, the British Acupuncture Council website or the NICE website you can see the current research.

You can find research fact sheets on the following at the BAcC website

  • Endometriosis
  • Female fertility
  • Infertility ART
  • Male infertility
  • Menopausal Symptoms
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Pre-menstrual syndrome

As well as these areas, research has been carried out on conditions such as anxiety, stress and back pain, all of which can relate to fertility. Treatment methods have been established for working with assisted fertility and IVF.

Many people come to acupuncture for help with specific symptoms or to relieve specific pains like osteoarthritis of the knee, for example. Some use acupuncture because they feel generally unwell but have no obvious diagnosis. Others choose acupuncture simply to enhance their feeling of wellbeing. Acupuncture is considered suitable for all ages, including babies and children. It can be used effectively alongside conventional medicine.

Approach to treatment

In your first meeting Quintus will ask you a range of questions to assess your health picture and to design a treatment plan specific to you. This first session is also important to establish a good working relationship.

Quintus uses sterile needles that are used only for the session and discarded afterwards. When a needle is inserted you may feel it; the sensation is often like a tugging feeling or a dull ache.

As with any aspect of health you may want to discuss your treatment with Quintus before commencing a series of sessions. Quintus will talk through any concerns you may have about acupuncture and fertility at your initial session, or if you prefer you can ask for Quintus to telephone you.

Core Process Psychotherapy

Quintus is fully accredited with UKCP and offers psychotherapy and counselling for anyone wishing to explore life, its struggles and difficulties as well as providing a space to reflect and enquire, whether things are tough or not.

You can come for an initial session, free of charge, to determine whether this feels right and to discuss the groundwork of how you want to work and to outline the issues you would like to address.

In Core Process psychotherapy both therapist and client are engaged in a joint healing process where an awareness of the body, its feelings and feeling tones, and the content and states of mind that arise, are used to explore the nature of selfhood and suffering. The therapist’s essential role is that of reflector and facilitator of awareness. The heart of Core Process work is oriented to the belief that true healing is only possible to the extent that we can be fully present to the immediacy of our inner and outer experience.
