Clare McQuade BSc (Hons)

Clare has been a key member of the Napiers healthcare team for the past 7 years. She works alongside Napiers Senior Herbalist, Dee Atkinson, in both clinic and formulation work and runs Napiers Clinic’s popular Parent and Child Clinic.

Clare’s interest in Herbal Medicine began when she herself came to Napiers Clinic as a patient and worked with a herbalist and nutritionist to treat her Psoriasis. Her interest in natural therapies grew from there and she went on to study Herbal Medicine, graduating from Edinburgh’s Napier University in 2009 with a BSc Honours degree in Herbal Medicine. She is also currently studying for a professional qualification in Nutritional Therapy.

Clare runs several Herbal Medicine clinics at Napiers throughout the week:

Herbal Medicine Clinic

This clinic is Monday to Friday and one Saturday a month. Clare uses herbs to help treat a wide variety of health conditions including arthritis, fertility issues, lowered immunity, skin complaints, stress, anxiety, sleep problems and digestive issues. Clare uses remedies made from whole plant extracts and is trained to look beyond and beneath the obvious, to find the root cause of a problem, helping the body to correct imbalances and heal itself.

During your initial consultation Clare will ask questions about the presenting condition, general health, health history, present medication, diet and lifestyle in order to put together a treatment plan tailored specifically to you. Herbs may be given in tincture or tea form to take daily or a cream or oil may be given to apply topically. Vitamin and mineral and dietary advice may also be given.

Herbal Medicine Parent and Child Clinic

This clinic is ffor children, babies and expectant mothers, Clare commonly sees conditions such as eczema, constipation and other digestive issues, coughs and colds, and molluscum. As a parent herself, Clare understands the desire to look for gentle, natural treatments to help babies and children return to optimum health. Clare also sees women during pregnancy in this clinic, whether to support health during pregnancy or to help those looking to put together a herbal birthing plan.

During the initial appointment Clare will ask questions about a child’s general health and sometimes about the mother’s health during pregnancy and nursing, as well as about diet and lifestyle. She will then form an individualised treatment plan for your child. Clare uses gentle herbs with children and babies to help restore the child’s natural health. If a baby is being breastfed, herbs may be given to the mother to take otherwise herbs can be given in the form of tincture drops or teas to be added to the child’s drink or herbal creams and oils to be applied to the skin. Sometimes a vitamin or mineral supplement may be advised.

Herbal Medicine Clinic - An initial appointment will typically last from 45 - 60minutes at a cost of £45-£50. Repeat appointments (30 minutes) are £30

Parent and Child Clinic - Both initial and repeat appointments last for 30 minutes at a cost of £30 for an initial appointment and £20 for repeat appointments.
