SEASONAL AFFECTED DISORDER
The celebrations are over and it’s at this time of year that those familiar winter blues rear their heads. To combat SAD, or Seasonal Affected Disorder, I'd like to suggest some herbs and supplements which can help you to manage your way happily into Spring.
Vitamin D is essential for the healthy functioning of many areas of our body, including our immune system, bone health, cognitive function, and even cancer prevention. To produce enough Vitamin D we need adequate exposure to sunshine, and those of us who live in Northern climates rarely achieve this. Supplementing with Vitamin D will give you the support you need.
ST JOHNS WORT
Known for centuries as the ‘sunshine herb’, St Johns Wort has been clinically proven to help reduce symptoms of low mood. Many customers find this the answer to periods of stress and feeling blue.
SKULLCAP, OAT & PASSIONFLOWER
This is a traditional herbal tonic, developed by Duncan Napier, to treat ‘the stresses and strains of modern living'. Available to our registered patients, Skullcap, Oat and Passionflower is a tried and trusted remedy.
VITAMIN B COMPLEX
Vitamin B6 and other B vitamins contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue by supporting the metabolism. Vitamin B12, B6 and Folic acid also support the normal function of the immune system and Vitamin B6 assists in red blood cell formation and hormone regulation. We sell a wide range of B Vitamins in our shop.
ESSENTIAL OILS can also be helpful. Use uplifting oils such as Lavender, Bergamot, Neroli and Petigrain in the bath and in oil burners. Try spending some time each day outdoors, letting whatever light there is flood into your pineal gland to help produce serotonin.
Don't forget that we have a fantastic team of counsellors, life coaches and psychotherapists here at Napiers Clinic for when you need that extra bit of support. Call 0131 225 5542 to make an appointment.
