Love Your Liver with Essential Oils

With the New Year celebrations out of the way and many people undertaking a “dry January”, it’s a good time to take a look at how essential oils can help your liver to repair itself and stay healthy. There’s never been a better time to love your liver!
Why Your Liver Matters
When our liver works efficiently we notice several benefits:

Digestion - you’ll experience less bloating and flatulence.
Toxin elimination - your body will get rid of toxins faster.
Circulation - your blood circulation will improve. This means all your organs will be better oxygenated, your brain will function more efficiently and your skin can start getting rid of all the impurities and dark spots.
How to Use Essential Oils for Your Liver
Essential oils are concentrated and powerful, reaching reach the blood stream through being applied to the skin. In most cases, it is important to first dilute them with a carrier oil (for example; olive oil or avocado oil). When applying a blend of oils specifically beneficial to the liver, you will be massaging the stomach area and the area under the rib cage, where the liver sits. On reaching the blood stream, the essential oils will pass through the liver, where they will eventually be eliminated, but not before they have done some good!
Here is a list of the most effective essential oils for the liver:
Fennel essential oil
Fennel is good for the spleen and the digestive tract, helping the liver produce more bile and speeding up slow digestion, thus clearing the bowels as well.
German Chamomile essential oil
German Chamomile is a bit different than Roman Chamomile. It has strong anti-inflammatory properties and it acts as a great stomach and liver tonic.
It is cholagogue – meaning it promotes an easy flow of bile from the liver into the stomach. That in turn means a good digestion.
Ginger essential oil
Ginger essential oil is one of the best essential oils for liver health. One study even shows that Ginger essential oil can improve symptoms of Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). It can also give relief from stomach pain, flatulence and other bowel problems
Juniper essential oil
This oil has a natural ability to stimulate all the vital processes within the body. Juniper is a great essential oil for liver health because it can ensure the proper flow of bile into the stomach. It can also tone up the liver and the skin, among other organs. It is thought to also help with kidney stones.
Lemon essential oil
Lemon essential oil is excellent for strengthening the immune system. Very high in vitamins and antioxidants, it’s another one of the best essential oils for liver health and beautiful skin. It can also help with stomach problems and weight loss.
Peppermint essential oil
Peppermint essential oil is one of the best essential oils for liver health. It strengthens the immune system and the blood circulation. It is also good against indigestion, gas, nausea and constipation. All these beneficial effects on the internal organs will also reflect on the skin.
Rosemary essential oil
Rosemary oil has powerful regenerative qualities and can also stimulate the metabolism. It is good for the circulation and it helps with the elimination of toxins.
